why lanzarote?
to put it simply...
because...
because it is one of the most beautiful islands in the Canarian archiapelago. With a unique landscape that captures the imagination and soothes the soul. Mix those factors with the incredibly temperate climate and you have a vacation in heaven.
As a team we have known the island since the late 1960's. From a sexuality point of view there is a liberal freedom of thought among the islanders that is as refreshing as those who live in Amsterdam.
We can't even say Lanzarote is 'gay friendly' because here it's not an issue worth mentioning. Although gay culture isn't as "in your face" as on , for example, Gran Canaria. It is still a wonderful place for a holiday and gay life is understated, comfortable and 'out'.
One day we hope that there will be more gay run and owned businesses but that lies in the future. Unitl then, don't let anything prejudice your opinion until you've tried it. We believe you will love Lanzarote and if you do fancy a couple of nights of wild "entertainment" in Maspalomas, no problem. With more than 12 quick, cheap flights a day. Gran Canaria can be a special excursion whilst Lanzarote will give you the holiday you deserve.
Many people think of Lanzarote as a barren wasteland, how wrong they are. In Spring the island simply bursts into life with abundant wild flowers, grasses and poppies. The north is cooler, greener and less populated, a beautiful place to visit to escape the summer heat for a few hours.
The central part of the island is drier and here you will experience the pleasure of places such as Teguise, a town of artisans. Wander the streets, rest in a sidewalk cafe and then explore the shopping possibilites for local craft wares.
Many people seem to fight shy of visiting the capital of Arrecife but it's wonderful. World class shopping, a plethora of bars and restaurants, it's own stunning beaches and in late afternoon abuzz with people taking coffee and enjoying their shopping in the cool of the day.
Heading south, you'll find the fertile wine region of La Geria. Famous not only for it's natural beauty but also because it produces some of the worlds finest wines which can be tasted and bought directly from the various bodegas.
Visit Timanfaya National Park, the most awe inspiring lunar like volcanic landscape that will take your breath away. Finally the south, stunning beaches, white sands and blue seas perfect for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. Have you seen 1,000,000 years BC with Raquel Welch? C'mon if it's good enough for Raquel it's good enough for anyone! More recently Almodovar and Penelope Cruz filmed Los Abrazos Rotos on the island. It should be in European cinemas soon.
Lanzarote still maintains the sleepy charm that some of the other islands have lost and traditions still abound, evident in the many fiestas celebrated throughout the year. It seems there's a public holiday every few weeks!
Lanzarote is an island to explore. Small enough to go end to end in a day if you wish. We would reccommend taking a little more time to discover the magic that is Lanzarote. It's perfectly possible to explore the North of the island. Stop for tapas and wine, laze on a lonely beach for a couple of hours and still be back at your accommodation by mid afternoon.
Lanzarote is a very special place. After a particularly shaky start in the 70's and 80's, tourism changed the face of the island forever. All of us have heard the term 'Lanzagrotty', which as anyone who has really taken the time to explore knows to be untrue. It's a term that residents hate to hear, but the people who generally make such comments are those who stay inside their all inclusive hotels and never venture past the reception desk!
So, to sum up. The island is truly unique in it's attitude. Stunning in it's variety of landscape. Deeply spiritual in the sense of how Lanzarote succeeds in making you feel whole again. If you follow such things, Lanzarote is the epicentre of some of the most concentrated laylines in the Atlantic, it is a soothing place for mind, body and spirit. It is a magnet for the artistic, spiritual and creative of mind. Lanzarote will either leave its' mark in your heart or you'll decide it's just not for you.
Lanzarote is proud, welcoming, liberal, straightforward (really straightforward!), intensely special, environmentally aware and clean. Obviously everywhere has its' low sides but thankfully Lanzarote has but a few.
You can be certain that any preconcieved ideas you have will be shattered and replaced with cherished memories. You'll feel recharged, invigorated and inspired...welcome!
what we hope to achieve...
